Meaning, a few mounds of rice from paddy that is harvested from a small piece of land would suffice for an elephant. But what if the elephant itself enters the field and starts eating? How to remove seized or rounded disc and cleat bolts from your bike

Rounding out a bolt on your bike is never a good thing, whether it’s through being seized or by accident. Both pedal cleat and disc rotor bolts are particularly susceptible to getting stuck or rounded out so this guide will run you through how to safely extract them without damaging anything expensive. The first thing to say – and one that won’t much come as much use if you’ve already gone and rounded a bolt out or found one that’s stuck solid – is that prevention is much easier than the cure. That means using an anti-seize compound on things like cleat bolts and pedal threads. You can also use blue Loctite on disc rotor bolts – you don’t want any grease near them – as it acts to prevent corrosion as well as stopping them coming loose. It also goes without saying that you shouldn’t overtighten any bolt in the first place. Make sure that you use high-quality tools. While it’s possible to do pretty much anything with a multi-tool if you have to, using decent hex and Torx keys or bits will reduce the chances of the bit slipping out and doing damage. You’ll also be able to apply much more torque to a fastener if...

Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard-Paul George team up results from players calling the shots — finally

When star forward Paul George requested a trade away from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Los Angeles Clippers last week, Thunder General Manager Sam Presti read the writing on the wall: It was time to scrap whatever remained of the team and build it up from scratch. That process took its final dramatic step Thursday, when Presti traded to the Houston Rockets 2017 NBA MVP Russell Westbrook, who had been with the Thunder throughout the franchise’s existence, for an aging Chris Paul and a handful of draft picks. The Thunder’s dismantling was born of a broader trend across the NBA, one in which the league’s star players have exercised more and more control in constructing their squads. They work with their front offices, free agents and even players already under contract elsewhere in their quest to play for teams with a shot at winning a coveted NBA championship. We should embrace players developing and exercising any autonomy they can manage during their time in the league. Requests like George’s, and the extraordinary measure of player agency they signify, have been greeted with a dose of scorn from the public and media, while ownership has been disconcerted by the shift in pow...

Sonic the Hedgehog: Tim Miller Promises ‘Fans Will be Pleased’ with Redesign

In surprising response to early audience reactions, the team behind the upcoming live-action Sonic the Hedgehog was tasked with redesigning the star character after the first trailer was released. When the live-action Sonic debuted in April, the disapproval from fans was immediate, and loud. They cited the uncomfortably human features such as eyes, teeth and calves. Director Jeff Fowler responded quickly, and promised changes. It’s been several months since then, and progress on the redesign is still underway. Producer Tim Miller recalled the incident and spoke about the studios willingness to go back and redesign the character, saying “this is a franchise, and it has to be great.” He explained that neither he nor Fowler was satisfied with the initial design. “Look, I was with fans, and so was Jeff. When the s–t hit the fan, I went over there and said, ‘The most important thing to do, man, is say, I f***ed up.’” He then provided a small but important update about the redesigned Sonic, revealing that he’d seen the new look, promising, “I think the fans will be pleased.” Sonic the Hedgehog centers on the titular superpow...

The Slipper for the World Cup Champions | Editorial | Bend | The Source Weekly

Years ago, the Source used the “Boot” and “Slipper” terminology on its Opinion page, calling out the “bad” and “good” actors who deserved some type of recognition. While we’ve sunsetted using that format on a regular basis, we reserve the right to bring it back—like when the U.S. wins the FIFA Women’s World Cup, for the second time in a row. This team earns The Slipper this week, not just for taking home the top honors, but for using their victories to highlight a number of issues still in play for women, for LGBTQ+ people and for athletes worldwide. Here are just some of the ways the U.S. women’s team is advancing dialogue on important topics—and why they’re getting the Slipper. The topic of equal pay has been at the forefront of people’s minds this week, having been a battle cry for the U.S. women’s soccer team since long before the World Cup. In this recent World Cup, women competed for a prize purse totaling about $30 million. By contrast, the men’s World Cup contenders will battle for a prize purse of $440 million. That $30 million was already doubled over what FIFA originally offered ...

‘Medicare for All’ can mean at least two different things

The slogan “Medicare for All” can mean two things. Well, at least two. One of them would be a much bigger, and, to some people, much scarier change than the other. But the two meanings are both out there, which isn’t really helpful but makes it necessary to clarify the two ideas. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-California, who is considered a top contender for the Democratic nomination for president in 2020, gave a CNN televised town hall forum Tuesday night. She came across as strong, smart and brave. But my feelings about the “brave” part was undermined when I subsequently read about a small maneuver she employed to fuzz up her position on the future of health care. In response to a question, Harris said that she absolutely favors a “Medicare for All” program. Her words suggested that she meant the version of “Medicare for All” that completely replaces and eliminates private health insurance and replaces it with what is sometimes called “single payer.” But maybe not. Let me try to clarify/explore a few terms, because we’ll hear a lot about this matter as next campaign develops. Under “single payer,” doctors and nurses are not all government employees and the federal government doesn’t ...
